The likes of moneysupermarket, confused etc are paid a commission if you take out car insurance through them and not all companies use them. A recent example of a deal which was not available on comparison sites was from Tesco Car insurance who offered all new customers a £40 gift card but the terms stated the offer was not available for customers using comparison sites. Also remember that companies like Direct Line only deal direct so their insurance offers are never available on comparison websites.  Pay a bigger excess if you really are after cheap car insurance. (but if you have an accident prone history you might want to ignore this one) By paying a bigger excess you can and will reduce your annual car insurance premiums.  Think whether you need the extras that are sometimes included. If you really want cheap car insurance go for basic policies not the premium car insurance policies that include things like courtesy cars , breakdown cover and windscreen cover. Car valuation When you enter the valuation don't value it at more than it is worth as should you have an accident where the car is written off the insurance company will only pay you the market value. (don't undervalue the car either)  Car Mileage Give the true figure as you don't want to over estimate your annual mileage as this can lead to a higher car insurance premium. Annual or monthly payments. You will sometimes find you can save a bit in the search for cheap car insurance by paying annually rather than monthly as many insurers like HSBC will charge you more for paying monthly. Second Car Driver. Sometimes something as simple as naming a second driver whith a good driving history can lead to reduced premiums and cheaper car insurance.
