Halfords operates from 438 stores
in the UK including 375 superstores,
27 compact stores, together with 28 small format Metro stores plus of course the Halfords online website.
The
“Reserve & Collect” service which allows for products researched
online on the Halfords website to be secured for collection from store as little as one hour later has proven an instant
and growing success following its nationwide introduction in the spring of 2008. To date, supported by TV and press advertising,
customer reservations have totalled over 1,000,000 products and continue to grow quarter on quarter. Average dwell time on
the Halfords website in the last year increased to seven minutes and the average spend of customers who had researched online
and then visited the store was £49, compared with £21 from customers who just visited the store.
Halfords has a leading position in the cycle
market, selling around one in three cycles in the UK. The Apollo brand
is the UK’s biggest cycle
brand whilst the Halfords Carrera
own label tops the premium
cycle market. Halfords employs
about 10,000 employees in the UK.
For the year neded 03/04/2009 before exceptional Halfords made a profit of £68.1
million. During the
year
Halfords continued to retain its position as a market leading retailer for car enhancement products ranging
from car cleaning products and in-car accessories through to styling and technology products.
Halfords also remains the number one retailer for sat
nav products including
the world’s best selling Garmin Nuvi 200. Travel solutions, which includes tents, roof boxes, child seats, roof bars and cycle carriers, continued
to deliver strong
growth in sales.
