Savings Accounts.

Savings Accounts Summary

There are numerous different types of savings accounts but the main savings accounts can be catergorised as-

Instant or Easy Access Savings Accounts
These savings accounts normally allow you immediate access to your savings and generally offer a choice of ways to operate them like online on the internet, by telephone, by post or at a branch. Because you have immediate access with these savings accounts the interest rates they offer are generally lower than the savings accounts that require notice. Both the ING Direct Savings Account and the Alliance and Leicester savings account can be operated online.

Notice Savings Account
These savings accounts require that you provide notice before gaining access to your savings and in return you should expect a higher rate of interest than from an instant access savings account.

Fixed Rate or Term Bonds
These types of savings account require you to save for a specific time period. The terms can be as short as 6 months or as long as 5 years with the one year fixed rate bonds particular popular. Because you have no access to the savings for the term you choose to invest in them for you should expect to receive a higher rate of interest from a fixed rate bond savings account than you would receive from an instant access savings account.
